The Voice Newspaper Hits the Streets of Lagos
To aid easier access to information for Nigerians, a free weekly newspaper known as The Voice newspaper has been introduced into the Nigerian print media.
Speaking with M2, Tokunbo Osobu, publisher of the newspaper, points out that the initiative is to allow more Nigerians have access to information. “The truth is that not many Nigerians have the resources to buy newspapers on a daily basis, so what we are doing is to give Nigerians the opportunity to know what is happening around them.” On what the response has been, Osobu says: “The fact that people do not have to pay for it before receiving it makes it easy to distribute. Another evidence of its acceptance is that we print as much as 20,000 copies weekly. This shows that the paper is being accepted by the people.”
Pointing out that the newspaper has also been receiving considerable response from advertisers, Osobu adds that since the aim of the paper is to get people informed, the paper does not have plans of attaching any price tag to the paper any time soon.
The Voice newspaper is presently circulated in Lagos and its environs.
