Sesame Street Square Debuts in Nigeria
A new TV series, Sesame Street Square, is set to grace the airwaves soon. The half hour programme will feature puppets and focus on educational messages and activities for Nigeria’s pre-school children including reading, counting and the benefits of staying in school.Sesame Street Square Debuts in NigeriaA new TV series, Sesame Street Square, is set to grace the airwaves soon. The half hour programme will feature puppets and focus on educational messages and activities for Nigeria’s pre-school children including reading, counting and the benefits of staying in school. Centered around two characters, Kami, a girl muppet who is HIV-positive with golden fur and a taste for adventure and knowledge, and her friend, a furry blue boy puppet who is energetic and finds ways to make even the simplest task fun and exciting; the show promises to be engaging as children and caregivers are expected to send text messages via a short code to determine the name of the male moppet.Sesame Nigeria’s executive producer and director of business development, points out that the vision of the project is aimed at making a strong impact among Nigerian children and their families while addressing relevant social issues. It will also provide children with a strong foundation of basic literacy that will instill an interest in and lifelong love of learning. Sesame Street Square is a co-production of Sesame Workshop, New York , and Ileke Media , Nigeria . It is financed by a 5-year grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to be used in content creation, procurement of outreach materials, and research to evaluate the programme’s impact.
