Traders Hopeful of Better Patronage in 2010

Traders in Lagos have expressed hopes of better businesses in the New Year than the all time low sales which characterized trading last year as a result of the global recession which touched down in Nigeria in the early part of the year..
Traders who spoke to M2 during a survey carried out to know traders expectation in the New Year were optimistic that business will be better in 2010 than it was last year.
Mrs. Monica Ashade, a trader at Ojuwoye market, has this to say: “If what I’m hearing about global recession rescinding gradually then I expect things to look up for us in the markets.”
At Ikotun, Pastor Kenneth Ezeani went spiritual about it when he said that he looks up to God to prosper his business in 2010. “For me, economic recession or not, I depend on my God to prosper my business in 2010 and I advise my fellow business people to do so. I’m sorry to say this, but we do not have a people-oriented government in this country and, as such, there is no guarantee that even if the economic recession rescinds they would initiate policies that will favour our business.”
For Sadiq, a trader at the popular Mile 12, there is no need raising one’s hopes too much. In his words, “I don’t like raising my hopes too much. I’ll take whatever I see in 2010. I don’t expect the worse, but I will just take things as they come.”
Despite these hopes observers say that the current position of things indicate that things may be even worse than they were in 2009.
