Desert Warriors Reality TV Show Set To Debut
As part of its efforts to draw attention to desert encroachment in North Africa and Africa as a whole, Dr. Newton Jibunoh, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and FADE AFRICA, recently launched a reality show tagged Dr Newton Jibunoh Desert Warriors Expedition.
The competition, which will begin with a screening stage, will have 50 men and women between the ages of 18 and 40 vying to be one of the fifteen contestants who will make it to the final stage in Agadez, Niger Republic. The contestants who will be working closely with the Nigerian Ambassador to Niger Republic will work with officials of the ministry on environmental projects.
To test their physical strength, participants will pass through endurance exercises, physical fitness challenges, discipline tests, social comportment and driving skills tests. Though viewers are allowed to vote for contestants via sms, the final decision on who will be eliminated will be made by a panel of judges.
The last fifteen men standing will become the official Desert Warriors and will set off on an expedition that will take them from Nigeria to the United Kingdom across the Sahara Desert by road. Prizes to be won include Suzuki Jeep for the first, second and third places, and monetary rewards which range from five million naira to two hundred and fifty million naira.
The show, which will begin in the first quarter of this year, will broadcast on Lagos Television (LTV), Silverbird TV (STV), Television Continental (TVC) and TV stations in Niger Republic.
