NBC Advises Broadcast Stations to Stick to Code of Conduct
Following its routine station monitoring exercise, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has warned that all broadcast stations should adhere to the rules of the commission.
Speaking with M2, Ijeoma Theo-Obodo, assistant Chief Public Relations officer of the NBC, says “we have been monitoring stations and have found out that some of them breech the code of the commission. So, we warn them by sending letters to them to make the necessary corrections. Sometimes, when some of them don’t take to correction, they are sanctioned and these sanctions usually come with heavy fines.” She also adds that to avoid such sanctions, all TV and Radio stations need do is abide by the regulations given. Theo-Obodo also points out that the codes usually flouted by broadcast stations are those bearing on local content.
Though she refused mentioning the stations that have not been adhering to the code of the commission, she made it known that most of the breeches detected come from the newer stations.
