More and More Brands Enter Seasoning Market
M2 weekly market survey can authoritatively reveal that more and more seasoning brands are joining the seasoning market in Lagos, as the markets are presently filled with assorted brands which are said to be competing for consumer attention in the different categories. According to the survey, Limra, Otop and Kinko cubes are some of the newer additions in that category, while Gino, a brand name from Wantanmal has extended into powder and white seasonings.
Most traders who spoke to M2 at different markets during the survey could not be specific as to which brand is leading the cubes category but appeared unanimous in rating Onga and Vedan as leaders in the powder and white seasonings respectively. At Agege market, Jude Igwesi, a trader, tips Knorr (ordinary) as the leader; but at Ojuwoye in Mushin, another trader, one Mrs. Chinyere, tips Suppy as the leader.
However, Mrs. Monica Ashade, a trader at Ojuwoye, speaking on the market leadership of the cube brands, opines that Maggi star used to be more popular among the Easterners and Northerners while Knorr was for Westerners. Suppy and Doyin, she says are mostly for the westerners. She however says that Maggi is beginning to gain a lot of attention having improved their quality over time.
The survey also reveals a new addition in the powder seasoning category from Nestle Plc, makers of Maggi cube flavours. The latest entrant in that category is Maggi ‘Mix’py’, which comes in two flavours – Classic and Ginger & Garlic.
