Insight Grey Lays Off Staff

Martins Okoh
Uneasy calm is reigning at Insight Grey, one of Nigeria’s top advert agencies as the economic downturn seems to be taking its tool on the agency, forcing it reduce staff strength drastically. M2 findings reveal that about 20 members of staff have been shown the way out of the agency in the not too distant past.
Though M2 could not ascertain the particular adduced by the agency’s management for the rationalisation, industry players believe the tight economic situation which has plagued other agencies has finally caught up with the industry giant.  This situation has no doubt created a  form of caution as staff members are compelled to be extremely cautious in everything they do in order to safeguard their means of livelihood. M2 gathers that the air of uncertainty has heightened with nothing spared, as minor issues as timing is feared can be a factor in determining who is next, to leave, making employees to cultivate the habit of arriving early to work.
It will be recalled that in recent times, some IMC agencies have been hit by the economic crunch leaving them with no option than to lay-off staff. What is very disturbing is that some of these agencies show the staff the exit doors with entitlements unpaid.

Insight was becoming a behemoth of sort and getting too big for itself.
Surely, one day agencies will have run on water.
I was least surprised anyway because its top-heavy structure was not sustainable post-BANKPHB….or who else can spend 3 billion per annum shooting mediocre Impossibility TVCs.?
