Unilag Students Join Doctor-in-Training

Several final year students of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, have indicated their intention to participate in the National Volunteer Doctors Programme that will enable them affect the lives of the underprivileged in any area of their posting during their house jobs or national youth service.
M2 gathers that as volunteers in the programme, the doctors are expected to participate actively in empowering care givers in orphanages through health education pro bono medical services for the underprivileged, and email based medical consultations.
Speaking at a programme presentation by Sponsor A Child held at the Old Great Hall of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, Lagos, Prof Adefule Ositelu, dean, College of Medicine, enjoined the volunteers to give their full support to the programme, saying “if some people are spending their money for the cause of the less privileged, they should be supported.”
The volunteers will focus on training care givers in various parts of the country using, Local Champion manuals developed by Sponsor A Child, a not-for-profit organization.
M2 gathers that the doctors’ will also be required to sign the child protection policy which is a binding code of conduct for volunteers who wish to work with children in institutions.
