Oyo State Government Lauds BATN for Contributions to Nigeria
The Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Christopher Alao-Akala, has extolled the contributions of global tobacco manufacturers, British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN), to the Socio-Economic development of the Nigerian society.
During a visit to the BATN Factory in Ibadan, Oyo State, the governor stated that the state was blessed to be a host to the BATN and that it was going to do everything to protect the BATN business in Nigeria.
“BATN has boosted the economic profile of not only Oyo State, but also Nigeria, having contributed over N80 billion in taxes since 2003. Also, we should not forget that this is a company that exports its products to 14 countries in West Africa. They have employed thousands of Nigerians, many of whom are from Oyo State. These employments have multiplier effects on the economy. I think an industry like this deserves to be protected,” the governor remarked.
The governor also singled out the British American Tobacco Foundation (BATNF) for commendation, for the work it has done in improving the living standards of those in rural and urban communities in Nigeria.
The governor was accompanied to the BATN Factory by some members of the State Executive Council.
