Noodles Market: Golden Penny Gaining Attention
Golden Penny noodles, a new entrant in the noodles market, is said to be gaining increasing attention from consumers.
The new noodles, M2 gathered, come in flavours of chicken and onion chicken and in packs of 70g and 120g. Traders who spoke to M2 said that the new noodles are quickly picking up in sales.
Asked if this was as a result of the popularity of Golden Penny, which is also a major player in the flour market, Mr. Jude Igwesi, a noodles dealer at Agege market, said, “I think some of my customers who have tasted the noodles like it, else they won’t buy it”, adding that “apart from being good, I think Golden Penny is doing a lot to promote the noodles and that is making more people to try it.”
Meanwhile M2 observed that Indomie noodles flavours such as pepper soup, jollof, pepper chicken and suya, introduced into the markets sometime ago were largely absent in the markets visited. Asked why, most traders who spoke to M2 said that they did not enjoy patronage when they were in the market, so they speculated that ‘Indomie people’ has stopped producing them. But Mrs. Ashade, a trader at Ojuwoye, who claimed she spoke to a sales staff of De United Foods, said that the pepper soup flavour was taken to Ghana, where it enjoys patronage while the suya was taken to the northern part of the country. However M2 could not confirm this from the owners of the brand before press time.
