The entertainment industry and Nigerians have responded to Wazobia Awards’ call to celebrate Pidgin English in the country and in the Diaspora billed for November, 2010 in Lagos State .
Laface, the project coordinator, in a statement released to newsmen says that, “Recent responses from a large number of people reinforce the general believe that the use of Pidgin English needs to be promoted. For example, one of the respondents on our website made a remark saying, ‘\We don speak English tayaa, make we speak our own Pidgin jareeee”. In fact, we have been receiving positive calls and messages for support and endorsement of the project.”
Going further, he explains that, “Wazobia in the Diaspora will honour distinguished Nigerians across the globe while Wazobia in the Community will celebrate and honour the day to day Nigerian contributing his quota against all odds to the development of our nation.”
Laface also asserts that this year’s awards aims to adopt a new and unique trend by stylishly and creatively celebrating Pidgin English; “This year’s Wazobia Awards dares to be different in every way as it aims to celebrate the beauty and excitement of showbiz and entertainment in Nigeria like never before.
