New Media To Redefine Journalism
Following a conference on new media that was opened at the Lagos Business School recently in Lagos, Chairman and Chief Executive, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Ernest Ndukwe has predicted that new media would redefine journalism, media practice and media power ownership across Africa.
Speaking at the event, Ndukwe said that “new media will encourage citizen journalism and give the ordinary folks the ability to talk and contribute to issues, a situation that will radically diffuse state ownership of the media while removing journalism from the dominance of the tiny few.”
Regarding his take on how relevant new media is to this era, he commented that “as long as technology continues to advance and personal communication tools are fitted with state-of-the-art communication abilities, as long as humanity continues to seek alternative technology to drive down cost and empower the majority, and as long as it is possible to receive TV and radio signals on mobile devices, new media will continue to be advantageous.”
