NAFDAC Suspends Strike
Staffers of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), who commenced an industrial action penultimate week, last week, called off the strike action. The strike action was allegedly due to the Federal Government’s failure to meet up with the payment of monetization arrears to the workers.
According to the Chair man of Medical and Health Workers’ Union (NAFDAC-Lagos Chapter), Comrade Chidi Ezeogu, “the strike was suspended due to the directive from the amalgamated leaders of all the Union that embarked on the strike in Abuja.” He said that the Federal Government has paid 50 per cent of the monetization arrears and promised to include the remaining 50 per cent in the 2010 appropriation bill. He further confirmed that information has reached him from Abuja that the monetization arrears are beginning to reflect in workers accounts. In his words, “25 thousand workers were paid on the 15th of July 2009, and I know that every body will be paid.”
