NAFDAC Seeks New Technique For Fake Drugs Detection

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), is looking into a new technology that can easily detect fake drugs. It is doing this in collaboration with digital technology providers. A Special Assistant to the Director-General of NAFDAC, Ms Aishat Okpa, made this known at a workshop in Lagos penultimate weekend, organized by the Association of Food Beverage and Tobacco Employers.

Ms Okpa said that the measure was informed by the increasing rate of the counterfeiting of products which have become a major problem, not only in Nigeria but in advanced countries as well. She advised manufacturers to be fully involved in the monitoring of their products by setting up anti-counterfeiting desks to ensure customers’ safety. She also urged stakeholders and other regulatory bodies to help protect the country and the well being of its citizens as NAFDAC will not relent in its fight against fake products.
