MAN’s 37th Congress Holds in Lagos

The 37th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) held last week, Thursday, July 23, at the Oranmiyan Hall, Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State. The Annual General Meeting marked the commencement of the last year of the Alhaji Bashir M. Borodo (MFR)-led executive, the end of which will see the election of a new set of leaders for the association. The Congress’ theme “Sustaining Nigeria’s Manufacturing Sector in the Face of the Current Global Economic Recession,” according Alhaji Borodo, was chosen to further provide a professional platform to promote a close cooperation with its members, other organs of the organized private sector, the government and other stake holders in order to enhance an enabling environment for industrial development and growth in the face of the current global economic recession. Borodo, who spoke to M2 at the end of the congress, further pointed out that they sought to address the issues that challenge the manufacturers, such as near absence of public water and power supply, persistent congestion at the ports, multiple taxes, low capacity utilization, faking and counterfeiting of made-in-Nigeria products, and dearth of long term finance etc. The Special Guest of Honour was President Umaru Yar’Adua, who was represented by Achike Udenwa, Minister of Commerce, while Dr. Ibu Chambas, President, ECOWAS Commission, was the Guest speaker.
