Delay in Court Cases Worries NAFDAC D.G
The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Orhii, has expressed concern over the long delay in dispensing cases in court. He made this known to the press, last week, in Abuja, at the World Press Conference on International Collaboration against Counterfeit Drugs. In his words, “the long delay in dispensing cases in courts in Nigeria is giving me cause for worry. But I am happy that Kano State has now implemented a system where people who hock fake drugs are tried by mobile court on a spot; we will be calling for a similar court, which will dispense justice quicker.”
He further said that the agency will advocate death penalty and life jail term for manufacturers and distributors of fake drugs, in the proposed new law, as it is done to offenders in India and China, especially now that they are collaborating with NAFDAC in the fight against perpetuators of fake and adulterated drugs.
Speaking to the press on the collaboration among the agency, Chinese and the Indian governments, Dr. Paul said that they are happy about the collaboration because fake drug offenders in China and India can now get maximum penalty and their Nigerian collaborators will no longer have a free reign without facing the law.
