Analogue to Digital TV Transition Will Pose Big Challenge

As the 2012 deadline for the transition from Analogue to Digital broadcasting draws closer, stakeholders are looking at the possible challenges it might face.

Speaking to M2, Mr. John Ojo, AIT head of programmes, says that “though this does not affect us as we already have DaarSat, the truth is that this transition will pose a challenge to some stations as digital broadcast equipments are capital intensive.” He however reasons that the government could give waivers to some media houses. “Facing fact, some will not be able to meet up,” he states.

The citizenry is not left out in this transition process as individuals, families and homes will have to acquire digitally compliant TV sets which will be provided by manufacturers of TV sets.

Though this is a good strategy that will help Nigerians move up with the rest of the world, “it is hoped that the deadline will be met and then, broadcasting in Nigeria can be said to have taken a new shape,” Mr.Ojo concludes.
