ANA, Cadbury Reward Creativity

The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), in collaboration with Cadbury Nigeria, has intensified its efforts at rewarding excellence in poetry which it started since 1989. In the pursuit of this, ANA recently presented One Thousand Dollars to the winner of its Poetry Competition, Mr. Musa Idris Okpanachi, a senior lecturer at the University of Maiduguri for his work, “Eater of the Living.”
Cadbury Nigeria, the host and sponsor of the event, said it was pleased to still remain the sponsor of the prestigious competition.
“Poets are rare individuals with unique ability to paint the picture of their state of mind with words in simplicity that is not actually simple,” the corporate affairs manager of Cadbury, Mr. Kufre Ekanem, said. He went further to say that the poetry competition’s past winners always go on to win other competitions. This means that the competition judging criteria is of standard.
The immediate past president of ANA, Mr. Odia Ofiemu, used the event to talk to people in the industry to promote the reading culture in Nigeria. He directly called on corporate organizations to fund the provision of books in schools and public libraries which is the only way to liberate the human mind.
