Advertising Business under Threat
Advertising agencies in the state are facing hard times as the Advertising Practitioners of Nigeria (APCON) continues to impose multiple taxes.
Information reaching M2 reveals that apart from the dues paid to Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency (LASAA) for vetting of business proposals, APCON’s interference has become a nightmare as the advertising agencies are being overcharged and sometimes the business proposals of the agencies’ clients are sat upon, making it difficult for the advertising agencies to meet up with stipulated deadlines.
A member of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), who asked for anonymity laments that “this has adversely affected the advertising business, as clients’ confidence on the advertising agencies has waned drastically,” adding that the unwholesome attitude of APCON has made some of these agencies to indulge in practices that are against the ethics of the profession.
Speaking further, he discloses that apart from the multiple taxes by APCON, some of the officials engage in fraudulent and corrupt practices which are posing a threat to advertising business in the country.
