APCON Builds Up Professional Programme

The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) has adopted a revised syllabus for its professional Diploma in Advertising programme.
According to Alhaji Garba Bello Kankarofi, Registrar, APCON, the revised syllabus is designed in such a way that all candidates will be required to initially enroll in Part One and progress to Part Two and Three subsequently.
“This is a departure from the extant syllabus in which graduates in any discipline entered at the Intermediate Stage and progressed to the Professional orFinal Stage while graduates of Advertising, Mass Communication, Marketing or Graphic Arts entered at the final Professional Stage,” he says.
He notes that the new syllabus has such courses as introduction to mass communication, principles of marketing, principles of advertising, principles of public relations and advertising law and ethics in part one, while part two has courses like consumer behaviour, advertising copy, layout and production techniques, ICT, research methodology and quantitative analysis.
“While the old programme accommodated non graduates, the new syllabus does not,” he points out.
The revised syllabus will come into use in November 2010 and only candidates who possess a degree or higher diploma in any discipline are eligible to enroll.
