Akwa Ibom State Aims At 5-Star Brand Status

Governor Godswill Akpabio says he is building a 5-star state out of Akwa Ibom. According to him, this is being structured on the pillars of massive infrastructural development, education, tourism, industrialization as well as articulate, purposeful and peaceful leadership.
Aniekan Umanah, the state commissioner for information, speaking to M2 last week, says that “the last two and half years mark a clear departure from the past. As a result, Akwa Ibom State is in the front burner as an emerging mega brand.”
This is made possible by the good leadership being provided by the state governor, Akpabio, who according to the commissioner is approaching the development of the state with burning zeal. Going further, he discloses that the state “is undergoing a surgery and the chief surgeon is the governor himself, who has a burning zeal to develop the state.”
The state’s image was dented by the child-witches issue that played up on the national stage some time ago, but Umanah says “we were taken aback by the sale of such falsehood. It is the imagination of some people in mindless pursuit of financial interests.”
He further explains that the mindless pursuers of wealth “use the vulnerable to tell a story,” a situation he describes as very unfair to humanity. The state has moved swiftly to counter that by enacting the child rights and protection law, making such offences punishable.
The state is also cleaning up the dirt with free education. This has seen the state investing heavily in education, to which the citizens have responded massively.
