Tuface, Others Dazzle At 2009 MAMA’s Nomination Parley

A standing ovation greeted the performance by 2Face Idibia, as he took his turn after artistes like Kel, D’Banj, Darey Art Alade and Bigiano had entertained guests at the MAMAs 2009 Nomination media briefing held recently in Lagos. The event which was attended by various media men had an array of Nigerian artistes, who were nominated for the MAMAs awards in attendance.
Going by the nomination, it is obvious that the big names in African music are ready to do battle. Getting the highest number of nods from the MAMAs awards is 2Face with a total of 4 nominations. Trailing closely behind him are D’Banj (Nigeria), Nameless (Kenya) and HHP (South Africa) with 3 nominations each. In tow with 2 nominations in their hands are Blu*3 (Uganda), Da L.E.S. (South Africa), Lira (South Africa), M.I. (Nigeria), and P-Square (Nigeria). Those with 1 nomination each include Kel (Nigeria), Akon (USA), Cold Play (U.K.), STL (Kenya) and Zamajobe (South Africa).
Together, artistes from 10 countries have been shortlisted. Having a total of 15 nominees each. Nigeria and South Africa leads the pack. Other countries with representatives are Kenya (6), USA (5), Uganda (3), Tanzania (2), UK (1), Ghana (1), Namibia (1) and Mozambique (1).
Speaking at the event, Shamel Hanafi, Chief Commercial Officer, Zain Nigeria, says that “apart from rewarding exceptionally talented African artistes, it is our belief that the MTV Music Awards with Zain will provide learning opportunities for both foreign and African artistes by creating credible and lawful platforms that will assist them to showcase their worth on the musical stage in the world. “The winners of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain will be unveiled on the 10th of October 2009 at the Indoor Arena, Moi International Sports Centre, in Nairobi, Kenya.
