Soundcity Gears Up For SMVA 2009
Nigeria’s first and foremost lifestyle, music and entertainment television channel, Soundcity, is gearing up for the Soundcity Music Video Awards 2009.
Soundcity will end the month of July and start August with the SMVA, another round of premium music and entertainment excitement for which it is reputed.
The SMVA 2009 is a dedicated platform in recognition of the efforts of artistes and video producers and directors whose strengths and abilities have been able to put Nigerian and African music videos on the global pedestal, and this year’s edition is to be like no other that, according to the organizers.
Mrs. Shileola Ibironke, Senior Brand Manager of Consolidated Media Associates, owners of the Soundcity music channel, stated that the Awards this year will be in two parts: the Awards proper and the Awards Concert, taking place back to back in one weekend of exceptional fun. The Concert comes up on Friday, July 31, 2009, and the Awards proper will come up the very next day, Saturday, August 1, 2009.
This year’s SMVA will undoubtedly be of the very rich Soundcity pedigree, first class entertainment, and the best of recognition and rewards featuring choice artistes from abroad; and of course, it is expected that there would be a quality Red Carpet event, to be hosted by Soundcity’s magnificent class of ambassadors.
Already, telecommunication giants, Globacom, are sponsoring this year’s SMVA, alongside Unilever’s Close-Up and Lipton Yellow Label Tea brands. Additionally, the Lagos State Government is supporting the Awards for excellence taking placing at the Centre of Excellence.
SMVA 2008 was one of the biggest entertainment events held in Nigeria last year, one that not many will hurriedly forget in a hurry, as it featured the best of music and entertainment personalities from within and outside Nigeria, including American rap superstar, Nas and Freshlyground from South Africa.
