Plans for ION International Film Festival Intensifies
Organisers of the ION International Film Festival are putting finishing touches on their preparations for the festival, which has been described by experts as a laudable venture.
To bring together two of the largest film industries in the world (Nigeria & India), the ION International Film Festival has been slated to hold in Port Harcourt from 9th to 12th December, 2009.
Speaking on why the event was brought to Nigeria, Programme Consultant, Pariminder Vir OBE says the reason can be attributed to the fact that Nollywood and Bollywood have a lot in common. “The movie industries, besides their billion dollar earnings, have many similarities that run deep. Both have thrived in the absence of government support and contribute substantially to the wealth of their nations.”
Pointing out that Nollywood can learn from working with the Indian industry, Pariminder Vir says that an Indian film celebrity will be flown into the country for the event so as to join in the panel discussions to encourage creative and financial enterprises between the industries.
Other activities that will take place at the festival include feature sessions where independent films, documentaries, animation, music videos and student films will be screened.
The 2010 edition of the ION International Film Festival is scheduled to hold in Istanbul.
