Jazz Thursdays Commences at Metropark December 10
Starting from December 10, 2009, Highbrow bar, lounge and shopping centre, Metro Park, in G.R.A. Ikeja, will be treating Jazz lovers to weekly live shows tagged Jazz Thursdays@MetroPark.
Jazz Thursdays will feature UMUNTU as the resident band, while various guest performers will be featured every week.
UMUNTU Band has Muyiwa Kayode, CEO of USP Brand Management, as lead guitarist. Muyiwa was a regular performer at Jazzville during the late 90s. Also in the band is Eric Mann, a veteran jazz drummer who was also a regular performer with Jazzeria Band during the days of Jazzville. Eric Mann has performed with Tunde Kuboye and Jazz 38, Tunji Oyelana & The Benders, Stonefree Generation and Afrolink.
On bass, the band has Abel Nikoro, another veteran who was at one time bassist for Xcite Band, and has performed with various leading Nigerian Artistes including Steve Rhodes Voices, The Jazz Xpress, Femi Kuti, Mike Okri, Charly Boy, Peter King, Oliver de Coque, Kokoma Jazz Band and Eyes of Man Boogie Band. Henry Ugboje plays keyboard for the band. A versatile performer, Henry is a regular session keyboardist and has performed with various popular artistes.
According to the MD of MetroPark, Mr Blaise Igbowelundu, Jazz Thursdays is created “to cater for the musical taste of our more mature and cosmopolitan clientele, as well as jazz lovers in Lagos”.
With Jazz Thursdays, MetroPark hopes to restore the good old days in Lagos when jazz lovers could enjoys live shows on a weekly basis. MetroPark provides an excellent venue where busy executives could unwind after work, and enjoy some good old live jazz.
