Good Showing For Genevieve’s Pink Ball
Cancer is believed to be highly preventable if the affected victim is screened early and treated or operated on. Latest statistics show that about 9000 Nigerian women are afflicted annually, indicating a steep rise of cancer victims especially in women between 25 and 35 years of age. The reason for this is ignorance. Genevieve’s Pink Ball breast cancer awareness project began in 2005 in an effort to eradicate cancer, help cancer victims and enlighten the public on cancer. She has kept up with the tradition since then. The 2009 Pink Ball was held on May 23rd at the Expo Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event, resplendent of pink (The pink colour signifies the pink ribbon, which symbolizes efforts to find a cure for breast cancer and to help cancer victims). The proceeds from the event would be invested in cancer research, cancer aid and to establish a Well Woman Centre, a centre expected to provide proper care to women with cancer.
The purpose of the 2009 Pink Ball was shown to guests in a documentary, while breast cancer survivors also gave their testimonies showing the need for continued funding through donations in cash or kind.
The event was star studded. Well known musicians, actors and actresses turned up to support the event. Dare, Tuface, 9ice, and Dbanj were some of the artistes who performed at the ball.
