Emperor Olateju’s Son, Ludare Threads On Father’s Path
It is now becoming a norm in Nigeria for wards of past music legends to step into their father’s shoes. While some of them like the felas stick to the original genre of music played by their father, others have embraced embrace the more contemporary genres like hip hop and Rand B.
Femi, Seun and Yeni Kuti are some of the well known examples, others are Tolu Obey; Musiliu Haruna Isola, Paul Play Dairo and Dare Art-Alade among others.
One of the recent addition to that list is Oludare Olateju whose father Emperor Wale Olateju is one of the known legends of juju music. Clearly from his approach to the trade, Oludare has clearly identified a gap that should be filled to save juju music from extinction and fulfill the wishes of the older generation of practioners.
Juju music made popular by the like of King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, Emperor WaleOlateju, Sir Shina Peters, Segun Adewale, Dele Abiodun, amongst others is fast becoming an endangered genre of music as the new generation of musician don’t seem to find it attractive.
Ludare hopes to bridge the gap between the passing generation of juju artiste and the present generation. Ludare, who is a first degree holder, and his group have performed in numerous high profile parties and and he has always left his audience asking for more.
