Abuja Carnival 2009: Sets’ To Be Biggest Street Cultural Carnival
The Abuja Carnival, the award winning Commonwealth Best Carnival for Year 2006, is here again. This year’s edition is scheduled to hold from November 23 to 26. The carnival, for the fourth year running, is set to once again exhibit to the world the flamboyance and aesthetics of Africa’s rich culture and heritage.
According to Mr. Tunji Olugbodi, the managing director of Verdant Zeal, who are the official marketing and sponsorship drive partners for the carnival, “the carnival was customarily instituted to serve as a vehicle to promote and market the rich and robust heritage in Nigeria. Estimated to pull about five million (5,000,000) contingents and over ten million (10,000,000) spectators from within and outside Nigeria, the 2009 Abuja Carnival promises to be one of a kind. Six countries comprising Ghana, Niger, Benin Republic, Germany, South Africa and Sao Tome are billed to attend the “Command Performance Event” which will be graced by special guests such as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Ministers, Commissioner and State Governors.
One of the impacts of the massive carnival’s crowd presence to be felt in the capital city and the nation as a whole is the platform created for Nigerian product and services being exhibited to the world. Tourism service providers would be the direct beneficiaries. Again the huge media coverage provided by NTA and AIT would provide opportunities for effective and focused promotional and marketing initiatives for many brands.
