Not set without SED-Card!

self1When aspiring models come into my studio to tell me about their plans to build a modeling career I always advice them to go for our Sed-Card Package. And it surprises me every time when some of them give me this questioning look. Apparently the Sed-Card system still is not popular in Nigeria, though it would be of great advantage to all its users. Here is a short explanation of what the Sed-Card is about:

The Sed-Card was invented in the 60s by Sebastian Sed (That’s where the spelling with the d came from) from the Advertising Agency Parker-Sed. He wanted to create a standardized way for an effective Model Selection. Since then Sed-Cards are used all over the world by Advertising Agencies, Photographers, Model Agencies etc. They simply make the model selection and archiving of the enormous numbers of applicants easier. And also because just one card can entail up to five or six different pictures of one model plus the models details.

The Model Sed-Card usually comes in Din A5 Size (148mm x 210mm) and is printed front and back on a thick paper (280g/m”). On the front should be a single Portrait with eye contact. And we also recommend a very light make up. The models assets should be concentrated on like good skin, fine hands and long legs.

The Sed-Card should also basically show the models flexibility in front of the camera. Showing the same dull face or the same exaggerated smile in every picture will be a big minus. Different outfits and locations in a Sed-Card Shoot are an imperative!

However the Front Cover of the Sed Card is what I would pay the most attention to. Many times it is the cover picture that decides if the model will be booked or not. This is the picture Agency bookers see first and subconsciously develop a like or a dislike.

At the back of the Sed-Card the models details must be listed. Starting with the Name, then Height, Bust, Waist and Hip Size, Shoe Size, Hair and Eye Color.

In a shoot for a Sed-Card it is very necessary to keep it natural but creative. Sed-Cards are meant to show a model’s versatility but not to show a whole different person. After calling in a model for casting the agency should not be unpleasantly surprised seeing a ‘totally different face’. It would just be a total waste of time for both parties.

For Starters it would be good to do bulk printing of 200-500 pieces. Even if it sounds a lot now, ambitious models will soon find out how fast they will run out of them.

That’s it for today.

Na dann, gut Licht!
